Why expand into leather restoration?

Leather is everywhere and the market for repair is huge! The craft of tanning over centuries has transformed raw hide into something beautiful and precious. Today, nearly everyone owns leather —  furniture, cars, bags etc. The reality is leather requires regular care and maintenance that most don’t have the time or inclination to care about until there is significant visible damage. This is where a professional service comes in. Becoming a specialist opens you up to a huge market. Whether you offer leather restoration as a detailing add-on or provide it as a standalone service there is constant work available.

What types of leather and surfaces will I learn to restore?

The course will cover the restoration of various forms of leather surfaces including vinyl and artificial as well. We begin the course by helping you develop an understanding of various leather types and their production methods before moving into identification, diagnosis, product application, and industry techniques.

What kinds of damage will I be trained to repair?

You’ll learn repair and restoration techniques for all forms of leather damage from fading & tears to deep cracks & holes. Over the course we will cover fast diagnostics, masking, thin-film layering, blending edges, matte/satin topcoat harmonising, filler and backing application, grain re-creation and more.

How profitable is leather restoration?

Due to the size of the market and the constant demand for specialists, leather restoration is a profitable industry when practiced efficiently. Over the course, we share valuable information on business models and price structuring to best develop a consistent stream of income. Our experts offer advice on starting up a standalone business or support detailers and cleaners in pricing leather services as a profitable add-on.

Will I learn colour matching techniques?

Yes, you will learn Colourlock systems for colour matching and mixing techniques in a hands-on manner, practicing on real leather in real-world conditions. Training involves using a spectrometer, performing natural light checks, and creating a dye from a unique leather sample.

What tools or materials do I need?

You don’t need to bring anything to the training day! Afterward, to offer the service in-house, you’ll want a selection of tools that we can refer you to or provide ourselves. We also provide digital templates for aftercare and a QC checklist; many shops start with our recommended 'Detailers' Kit so they can begin offering the service the next day.

Will I receive an official accreditation or certificate?

Upon completion of the course, you will receive an official Certificate that recognises you as an accredited service provider of Colourlock.

What support do I receive after the course?

We can continue to provide you with advice and general support well past completion of the course. Within business hours, our expertise is only a message, call or email away.

Do you offer on-site or hosted training options?

Yes — we regularly partner with detailing studios, dealerships, and workshops across Australia to host our training sessions. If you have a suitable space (clean, well-lit, and ventilated) and are interested in bringing training to your area, we’d love to hear from you.

Hosting is a great way to get early access to training, position your business as a local industry leader, and connect with other professionals in your region. Simply reach out to us and we can walk you through what’s involved.
